GRADES FOR THIS CLASS
THE GRADE
The grade for this class will be based upon the following three criteria: 1) Attendance, 2) Participation, and 3) Preparation. The basis behind this philosophy is that these three items constitute a way in which religiosity can be measured. Therefore, traditional exams containing true and false, multiple choice, or essay questions will not be used.
QUIZZES
A daily quiz will be given to determine preparation for the reading assignment and to take the roll. Names of students will be called at random from the roll to give them the opportunity to participate in class by sharing what they learned from the scriptures or the manual. These students will be invited to share questions or comments with the class to stimulate discussion of matters that they may have encountered. Each student should come to class prepared to participate in case their name is called that day. Participation, attendance, and preparation are the essential ingredients for a grade in this class.
MID-TERM EXAMINATION
There will not be a traditional mid-term examination of true and false, multiple choice, or essay questions for this class. You will be asked to prepare a paper of at least 5 pages, double spaced, relating the most significant principles or doctrines you have learned from your reading of the scriptures, from class discussions, from class notes, from the manual, or from the Spirit. Names of students will be called at random from the roll and these students will be invited to share their insights with the class. Not everyone will be called upon, but everyone must be prepared to share the insights of their paper with me and the class. Each student will turn their paper into me at the end of the class. This will be your examination. It is based upon preparation, participation, and attendance. To obtain the full amount of points, a student must be in attendance at the time of the exam. Late papers will not be accepted.
FINAL EXAMINATION
There will not be a traditional final examination of true and false, multiple choice, or essay questions for this class. You will be asked to prepare a paper of at least 5 pages, double spaced, relating the most significant principles or doctrines you have learned from your reading of the scriptures, from class discussions, from class notes, from the manual, or from the Spirit. It must be different from the mid-term examination. Names will be called at random from the roll and these students will be invited to share their insights with the class. We will hear from as many students as we can in the allotted time. Time will probably not permit everyone to be called upon, but everyone must be prepared to share the insights of their paper with me and the class. Each student will turn their paper into me at the end of the time given for the final. This will be your examination. It is based upon preparation, participation, and attendance. To obtain the full amount of points, a student must be in attendance at the time of the final exam. Late papers will not be accepted.
