Class Requirements - All assignments must be typed unless otherwise indicated.
55% Speeches- 5 (5%, 10%, 10%, 10%, 10%, 10%) speeches will be presented to the class during the semester. Students must present a persuasive and informative speech in class. Speeches are openly critiqued after each speech. The two speeches will be worth 10%. Students will also submit four (4) Mp3 speeches on I-Learn (5%, 10%, 10%) Every one will submit an introduction Mp3 worth 50 points. 2 of the remaining 3 Mp3 speecehes will be worth 100 points each. I will randomly select 2 of the remaining 3 speeches to be graded. The Mp3 speech will be graded by myself, and all students should provide appropriate feedback as comments on the blog page to the speaker for each of the 4 Mp3 speeches. (NOTE: all Mp3 speeches must be submitted online in am Mp3 format. your online speeches are submitted in another format you may not receive credit for them. Each student should present a speech outside of class (10%). This speech should be give to non student (including off track students) in a public setting of more than 5 people. Speakers should provide the evaluator with the appropriate evaluation form that was sent out earlier this semester. The evaluator should mark the scores as they understand them and return them with the student to myself.
15% Exam/Quizzes- Students will complete the quizzes from the Harvard Manage Mentor program. There will also be a mid-term/final test given during the semester. The midterm and the final are the same test and may be taken twice during the semester, once during mid-terms and once during the final week. The mid-term/final will cover material from the Public Speaking outline and notes from class discussion.
10% Applications- Each student is to complete the assigned applications. Applications are to be turned in on April 13th. Those who have not given their final speech can turn in their speech critique the day after their speech. The application portion of the grade was worth 15% earlier but included the outside of class speech, which was moved to the speech section of the grade.

20%Attendance/Participation- Attendance and participation are critical for the success of this course, we must have a PUBLIC for public speaking. Therefore students are given 200 points towards their grade in anticipation that students will attend. Students are required to attend all lectures presented by the professor. Students are allowed to miss 3 days during the semester with out losing attendance points. This includes any school activities that you will miss class for. If you miss on the day you speak you will not be allowed to make up that speech. Students will be responsible for all information shared throughout the semester. If you miss you will need to make arrangements with another student for any information you missed. Attendance will be taken everyday. Missed classes will lower your attendance grade. Each absence, after the third one, will result in a 25 point reduction of your Attendance/Participation grade. With the new Mp3 speech students who DO NOT comment will receive a 25 Point reduction in their Attendance/Participation grade. Any student who misses more than 10 days in the semester will Fail the course. If you have read carefully you will notice that you can actually lose more than 200 points towards your grade; this is to emphasize the importance of attending class.
A Option- I reserve the right to give a student an A grade at anytime during the semester. A student must have earned a 90% or more on the Quizzes or the Final exam in order to be considered for an A.
A 100%- 90% B 89%- 80% C79%- 70% D 69%-60% F under 60%
Note; Plagiarism (The using of an others words or ideas without giving credit) of any kind will not be tolerated. Any form of plagiarism or cheating (any attempt to deceive) will result in a failing grade.
