Course Description and Objectives
The purpose of Interpersonal communication 220 is to increase our knowledge and ability in the communication process. The theory and practice of communication will be utilized each day in class as we learn how to more effectively interact with family, friends, colleagues, self, and our Heavenly Father. Because of the nature of the class, the following areas are critical for your experience.
Class Requirements
45% Exams- 3 exams in the testing center, consisting of true and false, multiple choice, and matching questions.
25% Portfolio- each student will be required to create a portfolio during the semester. To create a proper portfolio students will input all class notes, and quizzes, and portfolio assignments. A copy of each paper, including the "A" project will be included. Students will also include a daily journal (7 days of the week) as part of the portfolio. Portfolios are due on Oct. 22nd. Late portfolios will not be accepted.
10% Reaction papers- five reaction papers (listed in the calendar), no more than 3 pages in length and typed, double spaced, will be required throughout the semester. Topics will be assigned in class. Late papers will not be accepted.
10% Chapter Readings/Quizzes- students are required to read each chapter by the assigned dates and be prepared for a ten point quiz. Each quiz will be worth 15 points. The lowest score will be dropped.
10% Attendance/Participation- Because of the nature of the material and the importance of class discussion, students are required to attend each class. Students are allowed 1 (I repeat; one!!!) absences before their grade will be affected. Each absence thereafter will result in a 25% loss of attendance grade.
Note; Plagiarism (The using of an others words or ideas without giving credit) of any kind will not be tolerated. Any form of plagiarism or cheating (any attempt to deceive) will result in a failing grade.
DISABILITY STATEMENT
In compliance with applicable disability law, qualified students with a disability may be entitled to "reasonable accommodation." It is the student's responsibility to disclose to the teacher any special need she/he may have before the end of the first week of class.
