Course
Objectives
1. To
identify that the major incidents in the history of Israel's scattering
and gathering.
2. To study,
identify, and describe important events in the
history
of the Church from its beginning until the death of the Joseph Smith.
Texts
The texts
required
for this class are:
(1) The scriptures of
the
LDS church (Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, Pearl of
Great
Price).
(2) Church History
in
the Fulness of Times
(3) Selected Discourses
of Joseph Smith (provided on my web page).
Grading
At the end of the
course, I will give you a letter grade that I feel reflects the
learning
you accomplished during the course. I will use three criteria to
determine your grade: (1) attitude, (2) class attendance, and (3)
academic work.
Attitude
Attitude
is displayed
through preparation for class, class participation, and adherence to
honor
code. Participation in class
includes coming to class having read the assignments, offering
insights, asking inspired questions, utilizing your scriptures during
class discussion, volunteering to read outloud, and
taking notes on class discussions, particularly impressions received.
Things that will significantly hurt your grade are:
- The use of cell phones
during
class time, particularly
text messaging.
- Sleeping in
class.
Class
Attendance
Class
attendance
is a crucial part of the course. It
is the policy of the Department of
Religious Education that a student who misses more than five classes of
a 2 credit course will not receive credit for the course.
You may miss
two classes without effecting your grade. Each
class
missed after that will effect your overall grade by a half-grade
drop(for example, a B+ becomes a B)
per-day
missed until six absences. The only exception to this policy is
school excused absences. School excused absences are treated as
if the student was not absent. However, the student is still
responsible for homework due as well as class discussion missed.
