The Smith Family Log House

This is the reconstruction of the log house the Smith family built when
they first moved to the farm outside of Palmyra. The reconstruction is
true to log houses built at that time. Further, the reconstruction was
built over the exact same spot of the original log house. The Smith
family was living in the log house at the time of Joseph Smith's first
vision in the spring of 1820 and Moroni's first visit in September of
1823. The sacred grove is located behind the log house. Moroni made his
appearance to Joseph Smith in the upper floor of the log house.
The Smith
family lived in the log house from late 1818 until the spring of 1825
when the moved to the frame house. They moved back into the log
house after they lost the farm in the spring 1829 and continued there
until late 1830.
