1.  You should know the proper order of all productions.

Examples: What is the planning stage called?

      What occurs during the production phase?

      What occurs during postproduction?

2.  Know the various aspects of the effect-to-cause model.

3.  What are items you should check for in a remote survey?

 

Unit One – The Production Team:  (Chapter 2)

1.  Know the functions of the executive producer, producer, director, technical director and floor director.

 

Unit TwoImage Formation and Digital Video:  (Chapter 3)

1.  You should know what NTSC and ATSC stand for.

2.  You should know all the parameters of the NTSC scanning system.

Examples: How many scan lines, frames, fields, etc.

3.  You should know the difference between progressive and interlaced scanning.

4.  You should know about digital sampling.

5.  You should know why digital is generally better than analog.

 

Unit TwoThe Video Camera:  (Chapter 4)

1.  What is a CCD, a prism block?

2.  You should know the video imaging process.

3.  You should know the elements of a camera chain.

4.  You should know lens ratios, zoom/focal length relationships, aperture/f-stop/lens speed

relationships.    

 

Unit Three – Operating the Camera:  (Chapter 5)

1.  You should know the properties of focal length and what angle of view different focal length lenses can give you.

2.  You should know when and how to precalibrate a zoom lens.

3.  You should know the various camera shots and their categories as lens or camera moves.

4.  You should know when to white balance.

 

Unit Four – Looking Through the Viewfinder:  (Chapter 6)

1.  You should know what depth of field is and how it can increase/decrease.

2.  Know the properties and symbols of the shots described in the “Field of View” section.

3.  You should know what proper head room and leadroom is and how to achieve it.

4.  You should know what the rule of thirds is pertaining to composition.

5.  You should know the relationship between focal length, depth of field, and focus?
