My Professional Information

Here is a little information on my professional background.

For the Fall 2007 semester, I will begin my fourteenth year of teaching at Brigham Young University - Idaho. Prior to my tenure at BYU-Idaho, I spent sixteen years working in television production on a full-time basis.

After graduating from Brigham Young University in August of 1977 with a degree in Motion Picture and Television Production, our family moved to Beckley, West Virginia June of 1978. It was here at WSWP-TV where I began my career in television production.

A new door opened in January 1980 when our family moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico. For the next four and a half years I worked as TV Studio Operations Supervisor at KRWG-TV. I also taught television production courses as an adjunct instructor at New Mexico State University.

In June of 1984, our family was on the move once again, this time to Pueblo, Colorado. For the next ten years I worked as KTSC-TV's Production Manager. During this time I also had the opportunity to teach television production courses at the University of Southern Colorado and Pueblo Community College. While at KTSC-TV, I was able to produce and direct several local television programs a week. My most favorite projects were two documentaries (KOSHARE and Historic Hotels of the Rocky Mountain West) which aired nationwide on PBS.

I am currently working with a group that is producing a four-part documentary on the history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mexico. During the Winter 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, I worked as a liaison officer with the broadcast media.  I was assigned to work at the E-Center, which was one of two locations for the ice hockey competition.

So now we are here at BYU-Idaho. I love my job here working with students in the broadcasting sequence who share the same dream I did many years ago of working in broadcasting. Many people today give the mass media a bad wrap. Yes, there are some bad things that can be done with the power of the media. But I also firmly believe that a lot of good can be done with the mass media. Those students that will improve the quality of the mass media are here at BYU-Idaho. As I tell my students: Atop the highest mountain, lies your every dream; climb that mountain, and your dream becomes reality.
