Nicaea -- Location

A synod of bishops, assembled from several Greek
provinces, was already planned for the spring of 325 at Ankara.
There an attempt was to be made to reach agreement on the date
of Easter and to end the discord between Egypt and Rome on the
one hand and Syria and Asia Minor on the other. This synod was
transferred by Constantine to the lakeside town of Nicaea,
not far from his own palace and more accessible for the two priests
sent to represent bishop Silvester of Rome.
