Course Description: The use of microcomputers has become common in almost every business and in most homes. People entering the business world are expected to understand basic microcomputer concepts and have a command of microcomputer applications. This course is designed to teach students user interface, spreadsheet, and database skills.
Course Objectives: Students will become familiar with basic computer concepts, the latest trends in microcomputers, and master basic skills using Excel and Access
Course Requirements: Attend class and participate in discussions.
Read the assigned chapters.
Complete the assigned homework.
Complete exams on schedule.
Grading and Evaluation: Homework/Attendance 40%
Exam 1 20%
Exam 2 20%
Exam 3 20%
Attendance Requirement: You are expected to attend each class. You will be responsible for the information covered in every class, whether you are present or not.
Course Policies: You will be working in teams of two or three students throughout the class. All hands-on exercises and homework will be done with your teams. Every team member must participate in every assignment to receive credit. Exams will be done individually. We will use the Assess IT automated testing system.

The homework assignments should be done after you complete each hands-on exercise in class. You must show your homework to the lab assistant by the due date for grading. This will count as 40% of your final grade.

All exams must be taken on the scheduled day.

During class time, you are expected to use only the application we are studying. You will be asked to leave class if you are using any other application. You may not use a lab if a class is in session.

BYU - Idaho standards are outlined in the student handbook. Students are expected to abide by the college honor code. No cheating will be tolerated. The dress code will be enforced in class and in the labs.

Computer Ethics: The use of the BYU - Idaho network, systems and data impose responsibilities and obligations upon the students to use these computer components in an ethical manner and in accordance with the guidelines found in the BYU - Idaho Honor Code. Students are to access only data and files that are owned by them, or for which explicit authorization has been given by the instructor for their use. Copyrighted material must be used in accordance with copyright law and applicable license agreements followed.

Attempting to circumvent or subvert system security measures or engaging in any activity that causes harm to systems or to any information stored thereon, such as creating or propagating viruses, disrupting services, or damaging files are considered inappropriate use. Violators are subject to disciplinary actions as prescribed by BYU - Idaho Policy and may also be prosecuted under applicable local, state, or federal civil or criminal law.
